Just another night in our house...

I started to tell my office about our night last night and I got to laughing so hard I had to put it down so I wouldn't forget this time in our lives…

10:15 pm Good Night Dietz Family

11:50 pm Mommy awakes feeling heartburn from the pregnancy. Try to go back to sleep and let it pass.

12:20 am Nope, sleeping it off isn’t going to work, go get antacids in the kitchen. Sit up for awhile on the couch to see if they are going to work.

12:30 am Nope, not working, take some more antacids and sit on the couch a little more.

12:45 am Mommy back to bed but not before stacking up the pillows under her to sleep more upright and keep stomach acids down.

12:55 am Mommy hears the cat somewhere near the bedroom door throwing up a hair ball. Not a normal occurrence but nevertheless so annoyed. However she doesn’t want to wake daddy up by turning on the lights and cleaning it up, and jumping up fast to get it when 13 weeks pregnant will like result in a fast episode of morning sickness. Decision made, clean it up in the morning, they aren’t that bad. Now try to sleep.

1: 50 am On the monitor mommy and daddy hear a cheery little voice… “Want mommy. Want to go see mommy. Where’s mommy? Want to go see mommy. Want mommy. Want to go see mommy. Where’s mommy? Want to go see mommy. Want mommy. Want to go see mommy. Where’s mommy? Want to go see mommy…. There’s the tractor. Want to play with it. Where’s mommy?” ….

While amusing, it is apparent that Charlie is fully awake and not going down anytime soon. (A pleasant side effect of the teething process where deep sleep can be elusive.) After chuckling a bit and listening for 5 minutes Mommy decides to get up and check on him hoping to put him back down and go back to bed. Reaching Charlie’s door he is standing there so excited to see mommy. Mommy picks him up and immediately he says “Want to go play with mommy.” Off to the big room they go. However “play” tonight to Charlie means sit on mommy’s lap wrapped in a blanket with every toy that looks fun and reading the book Jamberry what seems to mommy to be 32 times.

Mommy then starts to feel that yucky feeling again so Charlie accompanies her to the bathroom while she gets a drink of water. Then it hits. Mommy is getting sick in front of Charlie, which he finds fascinating. Mommy redirects him in between episodes by telling him to find the lotion. And of course he brings all the lotions into mommy why she recovers and pulls herself back together. What fun Charlie is having tonight with mommy!

2:30 am Next step, wind him down, offer bottle and get back both back to sleep. Trick him into finding the picture of the Jet Ski in the book to give her time to run downstairs and get the bottle. It works. Mommy runs downstairs to warm a bottle. Charlie hears her coming “That’s mommy!” Up the stairs we go “That’s a bottle.” They settle down in the chair to drink the bottle.

Meanwhile downstairs, daddy is still awake with a headache so off to the kitchen he goes to get an aspirin. Coming back into the room in the dark he steps in something squishy…. the cat’s hairball from earlier. Back to the kitchen to get the carpet cleaner and clean up the mess.

2:55 am Charlie is done with the bottle and mommy lays him down in his crib. He fusses for a few minutes but quiets down and slowly goes back to sleep. Mommy is waiting in the big room listening to him in the dark making sure he goes to sleep before going back down stairs.

3:50 am After dosing a bit upstairs mommy is sure Charlie is asleep so she tiptoes in to his room to cover him up. On her way out the door the floor squeaks and “That’s mommy” comes from the crib and up Charlie pops with a big smile on his face. “Want to play.” “No Charlie it’s time for bed, nite nite.” She lays him down, gives him his binki and covers him up. “Mommy stay” “OK mommy is going to go nite nite too.” Mommy then lays down on the floor for 20 minutes till he’s fully asleep.

4:10 am Mommy army crawls, to avoid squeaking floors, out of Charlie’s room and into the guest bedroom where she collapses into a deep sleep.

6:55 am Mommy wanders downstairs to tell daddy about her night as they get ready for work. Then he tells her about his run in with the hairball. They roll their eyes and smile at the crazy but wonderful life they have.

7:25 am Mommy out to the door for work.

7:35 am Daddy and Charlie out the door to grandma’s house then work.

Who knows what the rest of the day holds for them.
